One of the most powerful truths that I constantly use is :

“There is no such thing as reality, … only perceptions.”

This strong concept is all about mental vision and all. Your enemy is not stronger than you. He is stronger than you because you perceive so. There is no such thing as a difficult task. The task is difficult because you perceive it as such. There is so such thing as a non-conducive environment. The environment is non-conducive because you think so. There is no such thing as a scary event. It is scary because you think it is.

Rectify/Correct your perception of things, and you’ll realise your full potential.

The player who treats the crowd’s cheers as his fuel, will win.

Check your 5 mental senses (mental vision, mental hearing etc) – “transform” your environment to your favour.

Don’t let the environment effect you in anyway, “transform” your environment with the power of your mind to your advantage.

Pursuit of Happyness – Trailer script / trailer text

Before reading this post, please read Pursuit of Happyness (Part 1 of 2) . 

Although there are only a few words and sentences uttered in that short trailer (how long can a trailer be ? :) ), but every word and sentence is so meaningful and powerful.  Read my comments on the words and sentences said in the trailer below.

Chris trying to sell medical stuff as a salesperson.
Medical personnel : “We don’t need 2,…  we don’t (even) need one…”
Chris : “Maybe next quarter…”
Medical personnel : “It’s possible.” 

Lesson : “Maybe next quarter…” In sales…or anything for that matter, always leave the door open for future opportunities/negotiation… even if the current situation is not favorable. 

Chris :“What do you do?
and
How do you do it?”

Lesson : Seek and you shall find.  Ask.  Seek.  Don’t be afraid to ask… for help etc. 

Chris : “I want you hang on to my car for the weekend, but I want it back on Monday.
Rich guy : [playing along with Chris] “Feed the meter… !” :)

Lesson : Chris is toying with the idea / imagining that the Ferrari was his.  Napoleon Hill thought us about the power of imagination.  Contrary to a popular wise saying advising us not to count the chicks before they hatch, Napoleon Hill thought us to COUNT the chicks before they hatch.  Yes, the truth is, we must count the chicks to get them.  Count them, feel their fur, play with them in your hands, feed them – even when what you are actually looking at are eggs and nothing more… and before you know it, you’ll find that you’ll have all the chicks, every single one of them.

Napoleon Hill wrote : “See and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.” (from CHAPTER 2 – DESIRE)

Napoleon Hill wrote : “man can create anything which he can imagine.” (from CHAPTER 6 – IMAGINATION)

Someone telling Chris : “They said you are pretty determined…”

Lesson : Determination.  Yes, determination. 

Chris telling his son :
“Don’t let somebody tell you, you can’t do something.  Not even me (as your father).  Alright ?”
“You’ve got a dream, you gotta protect it”
“People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you… you can’t do it”
“You want something, go get it… PERIOD.”

Lesson : Napoleon Hill thought us all that… 

Napoleon Hill : “The majority of people who fail to accumulate money sufficient for their needs, are, generally, easily influenced by the opinions of others. They permit the newspapers and the gossiping neighbors to do their “thinking” for them. Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of opinions ready to be wished upon anyone who will accept them. If you are influenced by opinions when you reach DECISIONS, you will not succeed in any undertaking, much less in that of transmuting YOUR OWN DESIRE into money.  If you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no DESIRE of your own.” (from CHAPTER 8 – DECISION)

Napoleon Hill : “If you must be careless with your possessions, let it be in connection with material things. Your mind is your spiritual estate! Protect and use it with the care to which Divine Royalty is entitled. You were given a WILL-POWER for this purpose.

Unfortunately, there is no legal protection against those who, either by design or ignorance, poison the minds of others by negative suggestion. This form of destruction should be punishable by heavy legal penalties, because it may and often does destroy one’s chances of acquiring material things which are protected by law.” (from CHAPTER 15 – HOW TO OUTWIT THE SIX GHOSTS OF FEAR)

And this post of his (http://darrenlee.net/blog/?p=41) introduced me to the up coming movie “Pursuit of Happyness”, starring Will Smith and his real son, opening Dec 15 2006 in the US.

It’s a movie based on a true story… about a man, Christopher Gardner, defying all odds and hardship to be successful in the end. Most elements in the movie are in line with Napoleon Hill’s teachings. Success is all in the mind. I will not repeat the synopsis here… watching the trailer and reading the synopsis will tell you much more than what I can tell you.

I lost count on the number of times I played the trailer. It is so meaningful to me. Note the words uttered in the trailer – they are so powerful. I’ll write another post about them here.

This is a story I find inspiring. Sharing it here with you. Hope you like it too :

LONG ago, there was an old man who lived in a village. Although very poor, he was the envy of many because he had a beautiful white horse. Kings had approached him and offered huge sums of money for the horse. But the man would always say, “To me, this is not a horse. He is a person, a friend. How can you sell a friend?”

One morning, the man found his horse missing from the stable. The villagers gathered round and proclaimed, “You foolish old man! We knew that someday, the horse would be stolen. It would have been better if you had sold it. What a misfortune!”

He replied: “Don’t go so far as to say that. Simply say that the horse is not in the stable. That’s the fact; everything else is judgment. I don’t know if it’s a misfortune or blessing. Who knows what’s going to happen next?”

People laughed at him. They’d always known that he was a little crazy. But after two weeks, suddenly one night, the horse returned.

He had not been stolen; he’d just escaped into the wild. And, what’s more, he brought a dozen wild horses back with him.

Again the people gathered and said: “Old man, you were right. It was not a misfortune. Indeed, it has proven to be a blessing.”

“Again you are going too far,” he answered. “Just say that the horse is back. Who knows whether it is a blessing or not? If you read a single word in a sentence, how can you judge the whole book?”

This time, the people could not say much, but deep inside, they thought he was wrong because he now had 13 beautiful horses.

The old man’s only son began to train the horses. But a week later, the boy fell from a horse and broke his legs. The people gathered once more and exclaimed: “Yes, you were right! It was a misfortune. Your son, who is your only support, has lost the use of his legs. Now you are poorer than ever.”

“You are obsessed about passing judgment,” the man said. “Don’t go that far. Say only that my son has broken his legs. Life comprises of fragments and you don’t get more than you can handle.”

It happened that a few weeks later, the country went to war and all the young men in the village were conscripted by military. But the old man’s son was spared because of his crippling leg injury.

The villagers wept because they knew theirs was a losing battle and that most of their young men would never come home.

They went to see the old man and said: “ You were right. Your son’s fall has proved to be blessing. He may be a cripple but he’s still with you. Our sons are gone forever.”

“You go on and on, judging. Nobody knows anything for sure! Only say this – Your sons were forced to join the army while mine was not. Only God knows whether this is a blessing or misfortune.”

Judgment reflects a stale state of mind. Once you start judging, you stop growing.

The Sunday Personality

CHOOSING a vocation that is entirely different than what you studied or trained for isn’t exactly new. Many people have done exactly that, and found fulfilment in doing so.

Still, you’d expect that if you spent a lot of time and money to be a medical doctor, you wouldn’t throw it away to become ? an audio designer, would you?

Yet, that’s what Dr Wong Teck Lee has done, and what makes the story even more interesting is that the good doctor happens to be a Cambridge graduate. You can imagine all the raised eyebrows in conversations he has had with people, and, of course, the inevitable question: Why?

The extremely articulate and affable 37-year-old manages a wry smile when the matter is raised; no doubt, he’s heard this one countless times.

“The hiatus, if you can call it that, was to realise a dream. In medicine, there is no room for creativity. The standard expected of a doctor is to be safe above all else. As a doctor, I had to satisfy my creative needs outside of medicine, which brought me to electronics.”

From Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich :

You have ABSOLUTE CONTROL over but one thing, and that is your thoughts. This is the most significant and inspiring of all facts known to man! It reflects man’s Divine nature. This Divine prerogative is the sole means by which you may control your own destiny. If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else.

Men with negative minds tried to convince Thomas A. Edison that he could not build a machine that would record and reproduce the human voice, “because” they said , “one else had ever produced such a machine”. Edison did not believe them. He knew that the mind could produce ANYTHING THE MIND COULD CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, and that knowledge was the thing that lifted the great Edison above the common herd.

Men with negative minds told F. W. Woolworth, he would go “broke” trying to…

You have to take that comment/criticism away from your thoughts and subconcious mind. As long as it is in there…and you remember it … will be a poison. Napoleon Hill also wrote in Think and Grow Rich :

Criticism is the one form of service, of which everyone has too much. Everyone has a stock of it which is handed out, gratis, whether called for or not. One’s nearest relatives often are the worst offenders. It should be recognized as a crime (in reality it is a crime of the worst nature), for any parent to build inferiority complexes in the mind of a child, through unnecessary criticism. Employers who understand human nature, get the best there is in men, not by criticism, but by constructive suggestion. Parents may accomplish the same results with their children. Criticism will plant FEAR in the human heart, or resentment, but it will not build love or affection.

Realise that almost all people around us are not educated with Napoleon Hill’s teachings. Almost all do not read Think and Grow Rich. Of those little that read it, almost all of this small group do not remember it and practise it. So in the end, unfortunately, almost no one truly knows Napoleon Hill’s teachings. Your parents, relatives and friends (Napoleon Hill : ” One’s nearest relatives”) and most other ppl around us… at times they are criminals in the eyes of Napoleon Hill…and they “should be punishable by heavy legal penalties” (just like drug traffickers, rapists and murderers cause they poison a person like drugs, rape a person’s dream and murder a person’s potential). But because most ppl (our country or most countries) are not educated by Napoleon Hill, including politicians, such laws are not in place to prosecute offenders. And we can’t blame these offenders because they don’t even know it is a crime to start with (Napoleon Hill:” either by design or ignorance”)…so they do wrong.

As long as we know ourselves that what they have done is wrong…and we don’t let it affect us… this is what we can do.

Take care of your mind … guard it from thought drug traffickers, thought rapists and thought murderers.

I was online chatting with my friend…and this poem poped up on my mind. Just thought of sharing it here.

The Victor

Job satisfaction

KENNY Wong was the one in the family who used to cook, from his secondary school days.

IT graduate Kenny Wong: ‘If I had to spend long hours working for someone, I might as well do it for myself.’

His mother, Audrey Chan, was not a lady who ventured into the kitchen, but Kenny had the passion for food and cooking, whipping up lamb chops or Hainanese chicken rice for his whole family.

That early inclination sowed the seeds for his business venture today.

An IT graduate from Charles Stuart University, Australia, Kenny, 27, first got a job in network support with a public-listed company when he came back.

However, after a year of long working hours, he did some rethinking about his career. “Once, I had to camp in the office for three days straight and couldn’t leave! So it came a time when I said to myself if I had to spend long hours working for someone, I might as well do it for myself,” said Kenny.

So, with his father Wong Chee Kong, a senior IT consultant, and Chan’s moral and financial support, the family decided to go into the food business.

I should not be afraid; in fact, I should be happy and delighted every time Napoleon Hill appears beside me.

I need him to give me the strength to face my family and friends and all those people who think that I am “different” (not taking a office day job etc etc).
I need him to help and encourage me to ward off all my worries which sometimes can be overwhelming.
I need him to assert and affirm that my success is guaranteed (this, of course, is dependent on how tightly I follow what he laid out in his book).
